It is obviously false that the failure of the the Bay of Pigs invasion was due to inaction of the internal counterrevolution for lack of a proper signal. S. analysts and strategists could not predict the response of the Cuban people, who donned militia uniforms and wiped out the internal fifth column in a few short hours. S. tutelage that more direct attacks were on the way ro put an end to the revolutionary experiment. Many opted to take refuge in Miami where they could participate in the plans for the invasion or at least, by their presence , earn the right to a share in the spoils once the revolution was destroyed.

Fidel Castro had disemboweled the enemy srraregy of converting this region into the rear guard of the counrerrevolution. Beginning in the final monrhs of 1960, he organrzed a military operation known as La Limpia del Escambray (the Escambray Cleanup), in which tens of thousands of militia from all over the country joined the Rebel Army in wiping our rhe counterrevolutionary bands one by one. In January and February L961, the revolutionary forces captured a number of arms and supply shipments which the CIA had sent to its guerrillas for use in support of the invasion.

On October 5, a subject was detained while trying to place a bomb on G Street and 15th. On the 7th, a strong explosion occurred in the Firestone Tire Factory aker an unknown plane flew over it. On the 16th and l7th, several vehicles occupied by unknown persons shot at two Agrarian Reform Institute automobiles, wounding the drivers and all of the passengers. In addition, 35 incidents of sabotage and terrorist acts against the population were reported. On November 23, several combat planes with no markings flew over the San Antonio de los Bafros Air Base.
