I was indignant, because his cards weren’t the only source of my indulgence. Basically, he was a good provider, and I’ll be honest: My compulsive spending habits were what destroyed our marriage.
My lawyer found out about all this and told me to come to court so she could do the best she could for me, but I panicked and didn’t show up. The court issued a no-bail warrant for my arrest; it took them a month to locate me. In an effort to kill myself, I began taking pills and drinking; I swallowed a bottle of Tylenol with some wine. I was picked up and taken to the hospital, where I was forced to take some charcoal substance to get the toxicity out of my system. I honestly did not want to live.
