Geometric Aspects of General Topology

This ebook is designed for graduate scholars to obtain wisdom of measurement concept, ANR concept (theory of retracts), and similar themes. those theories are hooked up with a number of fields in geometric topology and quite often topology in addition. for that reason, for college students who desire to study topics mostly and geometric topology, realizing those theories may be useful.

Growth Hormone and Somatomedins during Lifespan

A few of the congresses on development hormone (GH) that have been held in Milan due to the fact 1967, the Milan Congresses, have witnessed over 25 years the great growth of a examine box that used to be dependent at first upon the scarce wisdom of the organic homes of a protein. GH, whose chemical constitution had simply been pointed out and a radioimmunoassay constructed for its dimension in blood, grew to become within the following years a tremendous region of organic examine.

James Kirkland, and a Transgenic Core at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center directed by Dr. Jeffrey Flier. The Obesity Center offers multiple opportunities for education and training in obesity research to fellows on training grants held by Obesity Center investigators in each of the collaborating universities. The investigators represented in this application hold 65 funded R0-1 grants, approximately 45 which are directed at the study of obesity, energy metabolism or other nutritional disease.

In addition, Foxa2 is a potent transcriptional activator of "insulin sensitizing" genes. We hypothesize that Foxa2 is a counter regulatory factor in the development of obesity and may be a "biomarker" of insulin resistance. To test this hypothesis we are proposing a series of molecular and genetic studies to elucidate the role of Foxa2 in adipocytes in vitro and in vivo. In aim 1 we will examine the role of Foxa2 in adipocyte differentiation and gene expression in vitro. In aim 2 we will generate and characterize animal models that either lack Foxa2 expression or overexpress Foxa2 in adipocytes.

These ongoing research projects will be the framework for continued data collection, new data analysis, and comparative study. Dr. Betsy Lozoff, Director of the Center for Human Growth and Development and Professor of Pediatrics is the project mentor. An outstanding committee composed of leaders in child nutrition, behavior, development, obesity, biostatistics and health disparities will direct the training and advise the research. Dr. Gahagan proposes to explore the behavioral and psychological factors that cause additive risk for obesity in young children.
