The line was completed from Ashley, in Gratiot County, to Carson City on September 24, 1887 and on to Muskegon, on August 1, 1888. The Stuttgart & Arkansas River, extending east and south from the Cotton Belt main line at Stuttgart, north of Pine Bluff, a distance of 35.47 miles, was incorporated on November 21, 1888.
