Thus in inductive reasoning the choice of premises is crucial. Using one portion of the available evidence as premises may make a conclusion seem extremely probable, while using another portion may make it seem extremely improbable. By selectively manipulating the evidence in this way, we may be able to make a conclusion appear as probable or as improbable as we like, even though all the assumptions we make may be true.
